Rastro Cross

Location:
The Rastro Cross is located in Plaza Cruz del Rastro, to the north of the Miraflores Bridge. Ronda de Isasa, Paseo de la Ribera and Calle San Fernando, also known in Cordoban tradition as Calle de la Feria, meet here.

Origin:
Its origin goes back to an event that took place in 1473 during a religious procession. Legend has it that during the procession a Jewish woman poured a dirty liquid (probably urine) on the image of the Virgen de la Caridad. This aggravated the already existing tensions between Christians and Jewish converts and ended in the fateful massacre of many Jews over the course of several days.

Use:
Erected by the Caridad (or Charity in English) Brotherhood, this is a commemorative monument to those who died during the massacre of Jews and converts in 1473. The change in the topography of the area, especially after the construction of the Paseo de la Ribera, meant that it was moved several times. The one we see today dates from 1927.
