Episcopal Palace

Location:
The Episcopal Palace is located in Calle Torrijos, opposite the western façade of the Mosque-Cathedral in an area occupied by the Palacio de Congresos, the Diocese, the Provincial Library and the Seminary of San Pelagio.

Origin:
After the conquest of Cordoba in the 13th century, Ferdinand III donated part of the old Andalusian fortress to the Bishop of Cordoba. In the hands of the Church, the building would begin a progressive architectural transformation until it took on its current appearance.
Particularly important were the 16th and 17th century remodelling works that turned the medieval Moorish fortress into a Renaissance palace.

Use:
From the initial Arab fortress, the building mutated and was used simultaneously as the Episcopal Seat and temporary royal residence with the Provincial Public Library, the Diocesan Museum and other administrative offices of the Diocese of Cordoba.
