Umayyad Guadamecí House Museum
Location:
The Umayyad Guadamecí House Museum is located quite close to the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, in the current Plaza Agrupación de Cofradías. It is a privileged space in the historic centre of the city showcasing the recovery of the Umayyad leather techniques.
Origin:
The guadamecí technique emerged during the 8th century in the Middle East and became famous in al-Andalus during the 10th century, extending its use until the end of Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula. This technique on leather was recovered during the second half of the 20th century by artist Ramón García Romero, who dedicated his life to the enrichment of the artistic and cultural heritage of Córdoba. As a result of this work, the Casa del Guadamecí Omeya (House of Umayyad Guadamecí) was created at the beginning of the 21st century.
