Flower Street
Location:
The Calleja de las Flores is located a few metres from the northern façade of the Mosque-Cathedral and is a small, dead-end alleyway that starts in Calle Velázquez Bosco.
Origin:
The origin of this iconic Cordoban alleyway has not been determined exactly, but its current image corresponds to the second half of the 20th century when Alfonso Cruz Conde, mayor of Cordoba between 1949 and 1951, ordered the recovery of forgotten corners of the Jewish Quarter. This would be the legacy inherited by his brother Antonio Cruz Conde, who later became mayor of the capital (1951-1962), putting an end to the restoration of this small street.
Architect Víctor Escribano Ucelay was in charge of the refurbishment of this busy alley.
The Calleja de las Flores is one of the city’s main tourist attractions. This street was populated with residents’ houses which gradually disappeared during the last century, thus losing its original image. Nowadays, a multitude of tourism businesses have chosen this emblematic street to carry out their activities.
