Archaeological Museum of Cordoba
Location:
Barely 400 metres from the Mosque-Cathedral, the Archaeological Museum of Cordoba lies in the heart of the historic centre. It is located in the famous Jerónimo Páez Square.
Origin:
To talk about the historical origin of this site we must go back to Roman times, since after the extension of the current Archaeological Museum, the remains of one of the most important recreational buildings in Roman Cordoba were discovered: the theatre.
Later, this location continued to stand out due to the construction of the Páez de Castillejo Palace, an authentic architectural Renaissance jewel designed by Hernán Ruiz II in the 16th century.
Finally in 1868, the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Cordoba was founded.
