Albolafia Mill

Location:
It is located very close to the Roman Bridge, on the right bank of the river. It is the closest mill to the Mosque and the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos.

Origin:
It might date back to medieval Islamic times, but it has undergone various transformations in different historical periods.

Use:
Initially its function was to pump water from the river to the vegetable gardens and other buildings of the Alcazar Andalusí. From the 13th century onwards, it was used for milling.
Legend has it that it was Queen Isabella I of Castile who ordered the waterwheel to stop operating due to the noise that the buckets made when they came into contact with the water. It could be heard from the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, where she lived for several years to organise the conquest of the Nasrid kingdom in Granada.
