Albolafia Groves
Location:
The Albolafia Groves are located in the bend formed by the river at the entrance to the historic centre of the city.
Origin:
It dates from the 12th century, but its hydraulic system was modified in the 16th. It changed from the traditional lateral pumping of the mill to another style in which the water flowed underneath it.
Use:
It was originally a mill for pumping water, but over the centuries it was also used for grinding and weaving. It ceased activity in the 18th century and in the first half of the 20th century it was still used as an access point to cross the river by boat. Bathers used this bend in the river as a small urban beach.
Between 2001 and 2006 it was restored and converted into the Water Museum, still used as this today, which shows how water has been used throughout history as a resource, as technology for various industrial activities as well as a means of transport.
