Santa Clara Convent

Location:
The Convent of Santa Clara is located in Calle Rey Heredia in Cordoba’s historic centre, just a few metres from the Provincial Archaeological Museum.

Origin:
The Convent of Santa Clara stands on the site of an ancient Byzantine style church, dating from around the 6th century A.D. Later, between the end of the 10th and the beginning of the 11th century, this site was chosen for the construction of a neighbourhood mosque. After the Christian conquest of Córdoba, the former mosque was converted into a church under the patronage of Santa Catalina, and from 1265 it became part of the convent of the Order of Santa Clara.
