Seville Gate

Location:
The western stretch of the walled perimeter is home to one of the city’s most important historical entrances: the Puerta de Sevilla (Seville Gate). This entrance is located on the route of one of the busiest avenues in the city today, the Avenida del Corregidor, and provides access to the historic quarter of the Old Alcázar or San Basilio.

Origin:
This historic entrance was erected during the Muslim period, but it was located on the western wall of the Medina, probably where the Puerta de la Luna is today. The gate was moved to its current location when the Alcázar Viejo district and the new walled enclosure were built.
