Ibn Zaydun

Location:
A few metres from the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, in the current Plaza Campo de los Santos Mártires, stands the well-known “Monumento de los Enamorados”, commemorating the abrupt love story between the poet Ibn Zaydun and the princess Wallada. In addition, this Andalusian poet has a roundabout dedicated in his honour in the west of the city of Cordoba.

Origin:
Local architect Víctor Escribano Ucelay, along with sculptor Pablo Yusti Conejo, were architects of “Monumento a los Enamorados” (Lovers´Monument) which commemorates the story between Ibn Zaydun and Wallada. Escribano Ucelay was in charge of making the small temple where the intertwined hands created by Yusti Conejo were placed. This peculiar sculpture was inaugurated in 1971.
